Update on Skilled Worker Visa Earnings Threshold Changes

Written by Recruitment Solvers on 22/12/2023

The government has recently announced an upcoming change to the earnings threshold for Skilled Worker visa applications. The new threshold will be £38,700. However, until the Immigration Rules are amended, the current salary and Minimum Income Requirement thresholds remain in place.

Tom Pursglove, MP, provided a response on 20 December 2023, to Mr. Clive Betts, MP, clarifying the earnings threshold for existing Skilled Worker visa holders. Read the full question and response here for details.

The clarity provided by Tom Pursglove, MP, for existing Skilled Workers is summarised here:

Existing Applications

If you are currently in the Skilled Worker route or apply before the rule changes, you will NOT be affected by the new £38,700 salary threshold when seeking to extend your stay or settle in the UK.

Extensions

For individuals looking to extend their stay under the Skilled Worker route, the upcoming changes will not impact your application if it’s made before the new rules come into effect.

Settlements

The new earnings threshold will also not apply to those already in the Skilled Worker route or who apply before the changes when they are looking to settle in the UK.
